Your car or motorcycle insurance will transfer to your new residence in the state you live, but if you move out of state you will have to cancel your policy and start a new policy.

Don’t terminate your insurance policy until you’re  moved and have a current policy in place.  You’ll want to shop and get new insurance within 30 days.  Keep in mind, you will have to obtain a new driver’s license, register your car and shop for new insurance.

Again, don’t cancel your auto or motorcycle insurance until you have a new policy in force.

If you are out of state for a short while and plan to return you won’t need to change insurance, driver’s license or registration.  The catch here is where do you reside or where do you file your state taxes?
