Driving less is important for many reasons.  Keep in mind, the more miles you drive the more premium you pay for auto insurance.  It’s a good idea to monitor your miles.  There are ways to limit your annual miles driven.

  • Carpool at least once a week.
  • Take public transportation.
  • Bike or walk for short trips.

Not only do these suggestions help to lower your car insurance and miles driven on your car, it also reduces the emissions and pollution we all contribute to our planet.

Let’s talk about personal property coverage.  What is personal property?  I tell my insured’s, an easy way to know what is personal property and to calculate the limits is to ‘turn your house, condo or apartment upside down.  Everything that falls out is your personal property.’

How To Winterize Your Car

It’s that time of the year again.  Winter months are upon us, which can present many challenges for your vehicle. To follow are suggestions to winterize your car and have a safe winter.

Replace or Refill All Fluids

Let’s start with regular maintenance, check your fluid levels.

  • Coolant—Check your coolant level.  Refer to your owner’s manual and make sure to use the correct antifreeze.
  • Oil—Check your oil level.  Again, refer to your owner’s manual to use the right type of oil.
  • Wiper fluid—Check wiper fluid, you’ll need freeze-resistant wiper fluid.

Inspect or Replace Your Tires

  • check air pressure and worn tires. Refer to your owner’s manual for the recommended PSI.
  • Consider snow tires if you live in snow country.

Make the Most of Your Gas Mileage

  • Have your vehicle serviced regularly:

Tune-ups improve performance and gas mileage.

  • Ease up on the gas and brake pedals:

Accelerate and brake as gradually as possible to save gas.

  • Avoid long idles:

Idling burns more gas than restarting the engine.

  • Avoid driving at excessive speeds:

Driving at 55 instead of 65 can improve your gas mileage by about 15%.
