I will list 8 things you need to do at an accident.

  1. Stay at the scene of the accident, again, don’t leave.  Make sure everyone including yourself are okay.
  2. Call the police.
  3. Complete an accident report.  If you don’t have one, you will need to obtain the year, make and model of the other vehicle, driver name, license number, address, phone number, policy number and insurance information.  Write down the date, time and address where the accident occurred.  You will also need to obtain witness names and phone numbers.  Keep in mind, if the police officer arrives he or she will obtain all this information.
  4. Do not discuss the accident with anyone except the police.
  5. Do not discuss your insurance coverage or limits, instead exchange insurance company and policy number information with the other driver.
  6. Do not discuss fault.
  7. Protect your property from further damage.
  8. Lastly, call and report your accident to your insurance claims department.
