Identity fraud is wide-spread affecting even the little guy, the home owner.  I will list a few ways to better protect yourself.

  • Lock your car when you leave it.
  • Don’t leave packages or items in plain view through car windows.
  • Never leave your wallet, money or identification in your car.
  • If possible, park in a well-lit area and as close as you can to where you are staying, visiting or shopping.

If you are leaving town on vacation make sure you:

  • Stop the newspaper delivery.  (You don’t want strangers to know you are out of town by newspapers piling up on your lawn or front area).
  • Have your mail held at the post office or picked up by a friend or relative.
  • Put away all packages that are in plain view in the windows.
  • Use your best judgement.  Don’t make it obvious that you are on vacation.
  • Make sure a friend checks on your home every couple of days.

I’m not trying to make anyone paranoid, but you can’t ignore the fact that Identity Fraud and theft are wide-spread. I hope the tips above prove helpful and give you peace of mind while helping you protect your assets.
