My car policy cancelled, can I reinstate it?

Well, it depends on the company.  But, most companies will reinstate your car, motorcycle or home policies with a lapse.  Each company has there own guidelines.  You will need to talk to your agent and ask if you qualify for reinstatement.

Most companies will allow a reinstatement in a given time; 1 day or as many as 30 days after cancellation.

You will have to sign a reinstatement form stating that you have had no accidents or claims from the cancel date to the present date.

You will have to pay the required mininum down payment and may have to pay other fees and penalties.

Again, you will need to talk to your agent to find out if you qualify for reinstatement and what is required by the company.

The best way to stay away from this problem is to make your payments in a timely manner.  The insurance laws in California have changed and your vehicles need to be insured, otherwise the Department of motor vehicles will suspend your registration and add fees and requirements to reinstate the car registration.
